Photosol, Inc. was originally established as Photographic Solutions, Inc. in Massachusetts in 1983 by David M. Stone, a professional nature photographer. The company’s initial offering was PEC-12® Photographic Emulsion Cleaner, a unique archival cleaner designed for film, prints, transparencies, and both color and black-and-white prints. Notably, it was also effective in removing Sharpie brand marking inks. As the photo and minilab industries flourished, Photosol continued to introduce new products to cater to their needs.
From the outset, David envisioned a small, family-operated business that could readily adapt to customer feedback and keep pace with evolving trends in photography. Recognizing the immense potential of digital photography in 1997, David collaborated with Eastman Kodak to develop the first product for removing dust from new sensors. Sensor Swab® and Eclipse® Optic Cleaning Fluid quickly became the go-to solutions for sensor cleaning, establishing themselves as the best-selling products in their respective categories worldwide.
With his wife, Elizabeth, by his side, PhotoSol soon outgrew its humble home-based location. Their two daughters, Jessica and Samantha, even learned to count to twelve by packaging the swabs into boxes (although there may have been occasional discrepancies of eleven or thirteen – our apologies!).
In 2021, David and PJ Rosenberg reached an agreement. Leveraging PJ’s experience with the brand and his own successful business, as well as his enthusiasm, ethical approach, and understanding of current marketing trends, it was deemed the perfect fit to carry the baton from one small family to another. Thus, PhotoSol, Inc. NY was born.
After four decades of dedication, David and Elizabeth now enjoy their time with family, travel, and diving, embracing new adventures beyond the realm of Photosol.
